Ciao, San Diego

CIAO, SAN DIEGO is a five-part television series exploring the history, culture, and living spirit of San Diego’s Little Italy through the eyes of host Gianna Holiday, a young Italian American woman setting out to better understand her own heritage. Each episode uses one of the pillars that shaped the neighborhood, from food and faith to fishing, community, and the remarkable women of Little Italy as a doorway into a much larger story about where we come from and what it takes to keep a culture alive. Along the way, Gianna cooks, listens, learns, and spends time with the people carrying these traditions forward, discovering how generations of immigrants helped transform a working waterfront neighborhood into one of San Diego’s most vibrant communities. But CIAO, SAN DIEGO isn’t simply a look backward. It is a celebration of the people, businesses, families, and traditions defining Little Italy today and an invitation to experience the neighborhood not simply as a destination, but as a living community worth knowing, supporting, and preserving. At its heart, the series is about food, family, identity, and belonging—and the idea that preserving the character of a place means understanding the people who gave it that character in the first place.
